Culture To Welcome Me Back

So looks like I took all of April off.  I am simply embarrassed, but I took a much needed vacation and dedicated my energy to get ready for it, have fun on it and then simply deal with the withdrawal symptoms of facing reality.  What better way to get back in the game than with a little art work.  Beginning tomorrow in New York City the 10th Annual Spring Affordable Art Fair will open its doors at 7 West 34th Street.  Here you will be able to find art from over 75 galleries exhibiting original art work.  Prices start at just $100 for amazing original pieces.  This is a great way for first time collectors to get their feet wet, or the seasoned buyer to see what the fresh talent is out there.  There is everything from paintings, sculptures, photographs and mixed media works.  Starting tomorrow, admission to the fair is free from 6-8, which is just an added bonus.  Head over and look at the art work, go home and think about it.  Since you cannot stop thinking about it head back with your check book and proudly hang that original art work on the wall.  When you come back you will have to pay for admissions.  This is an excellent opportunity to support talent and beautify your home.

Boom Boom Design You

We all want to appear cultured, even if we are not.  So we go to the museum shops and buy prints of Vermeer paintings.  Well I buy them because he is my favorite artists and love that his entier life's work was basically painted by the same window and amount to a baerly enough for a retrospective.  So I would say I am cultured and like to show for it.  That's why the shops on Designboom have great items to show your artistic preference.  Designboom is a sight that displays some of the most cutting edge displays of architecture, art and design.  Their "museum shop" allows for one to purchase items inspired by these unique artists.  There are fun childish items like crayon rings.  Great for your budding princess or the glamour artist in you that does not want to give up her bling.  There are intricite lamps that are just made from paper.  Scare a dinner guest with the Shark Fin salt and pepper shakers.  Everything in this store looks like it would be found lingering in a Phillipe Starck hotel or property.  So what is stopping you from making you abode the next hotspot for models and fashionistas to stop at? 

Adding a Pill of Flavor to Your Day

Before the skies decided to open on Tuesday with a summer thunder storm, I was supposed to be in downward dog participating the the record breaking yoga class on Central Park's Great Lawn. This great, huge event was organized by the people of Flavor Pill. Delivered daily, Flavor Pill will fill you in on all the cultural events happening around your city. They facilitate bringing the culturally savvy together. Their editors scour and comb through what your city is offering and tells you which ones you should participate in. This means everything from the obscure, to the underground, and your in the face main stream. Currently broadcasting events in New York, Chicago, LA, San Fran and across the pond in London, you can find the flavor in your city. Obviously they are expanding. There are free events, ones that cost pennies, and ones that should be for special occasions. However, there is no reason why you should not participate. For those like me trying to be more well rounded a little culture in our life is a good thing. Sometimes we meet people who want to talk about things other than which celeb is in rehab and where to find a maxi dress for under 50 bucks.
