Working in an office where everyone else is looking to save has helped fuel my blog posts. Today I was enlightened to 2 websites that help the customer save. The sites are Freeshipping.org (http://www.freeshipping.org/) and Retail Me Not (http://www.retailmenot.com/). Freeshipping is a database for all websites that are offering free shipping on purchases. It can be so annoying when you find a great deal online to then pay a ridiculous fee for shipping. So before you check out see if the site you are about to purchase something is offering free shipping. Let your friend’s know and share the deal. The website lists hundreds of retailers. Test your luck and see if this week Banana Republic is offering free shipping in addition to their great sale prices.

Retail Me Not is a collection of codes and deals that websites are offering, but sometimes the information is not widely spread. The website compiles codes that are sent to people on mailing lists or posted on advertisements and spreads the good fortune to others. There are codes listed for websites across the globe. One listed today is for Ebay India. This site is a rare find and should be shared with everyone you know, on all corners of the globe. At any given time there are over 100,000 coupons listed for one to use. It would be a shame to forget to visit this site before you press process order

Contemporary fashion can be so overpriced that it is hard justiying spending so much on a little blouse or a pair of jeans. And now that the economy is tanking we need to spend our money in more important places, i.e. food to feed the family or gas to get to work. But sometimes you just want the latest fashions. Revisit The Past

It is one thing to spend your whole weekend scouring every second hand store and goodwill to find the perfect 1970s gown or sequined top that no-one has, but it is even better when someone has already done the work for you. However when this someone has already found the needle in the haystack the customer ends up paying through the roof for their rare find. I have seen vintage t-shirts that are held together by a fraying seam sell for upwards of $100. There is no way I can afford a ratty concert-t for that price.
I was pursuing the finds and crafts on Etsy when I came across Redux’s shop. Stocked in their shop are great vintage finds at reasonable, affordable prices. The clothing is more expensive then those at The Salvation Army, but they are nowhere near boutique prices. The pieces are vintage, fashion forward and in excellent condition. The styles look current and wearable for any occasion. You may mistake some for those on the racks at Bloomingdale’s or Nordstrom. However these dresses, tops and skirts have a charm that mass production cannot capture. .
My favorite piece is a Black Lace 80’s dress. The craftsmanship looks impeccable and is incredibly interesting. The front is plain and simple with a high neck; however when you turn around the low back with rosettes and ruffles is a hidden surprise that adds intrigue to any outfit. Oh and I forgot to mention it is only $42. If the dress is in the condition Redux claims, this dress is an absolute steal. You couldn’t get something like this on sale at a department store. Another favorite of mine is the 1980s Flirty Fall Floral-Print Skirt. This is a great piece for the office. It combines many of the trends from the fall runway: volume, pockets and florals. You may find a knock-off at H&M or Forever 21, but will it actually last through a wash? This one probably will. With a black top and cardigan and a great strappy wedge your outfit will be killer. This one is even better, $23.
These may seem high prices to pay for clothes someone else wore; however they are beautiful and different from anything you can find in your local mall. Vintage is a great way to look current with an edge. Every designer references the past. Stay current with the good ole days. Redux’s items are incredible. His or Her eye knows how to pick what will stand the test of time. Treat yourself to vintage that will look great for years to come.

Clothes your wardrobe GAP

I was at my local GAP today to stock up on fall and winter clothes.  I have passed the window on my way to work everyday wanting to go in and shop.  Their clothes look really great and are perfect to follow the trends straight of the runway.  I was willing to go in and pay the full retail price, but everything is on sale.  Everything is up to 40% off.  The clothes are great.  I picked up wide leg trousers to wear with a cowl neck short-sleeved sweater.  The high wasted wide leg jeans were incredibly flattering.  There were very cute sweater dresses.  Plaids were huge on the runways and now assessable at the gap.  They have flattering patterns with great ruffles on the front.  It is the perfect balance between masculine and feminine.     Everything was a neutral color pallet:  black, brown and grey.  Its a perfect sale to stock up on basics that you have worn to their last seams.  Head over to your local branch or pick up your basics online at gap.com

I found another website with codes: www.keycode.com. I like this site a bit more because it is aesthetically pleasing in comparison. It looks a bit cleaner and more organized. Another great feature is that it has codes for Canada and the UK. Why not spread the love of saving. They offer printable coupons and online codes. There is a section of the top ten hottest offers on and off the web, new offers and ones about to expire. All the major retailers are featured. No code for the store you want to buy something for? Check out the free shipping tab, the retailer maybe offering that promotion.

One of my favorite stores on Etsy.com, the Atelier is having a summer clearance sale. The designer has the most exquisite jewelry that are unique and intriguing. The prices range from the very affordable to the more desirable. The pieces are original, classic, and creative. Colors are vibrant and will spruce up any outfit. To make everything better the Atelier is having a promotion, 40% off everything in stock. That necklace that may have been a bit of a reach could now be super affordable.

I purchased Lapis earrings that I have had my eye on for over a year. I am so happy The Atelier ran this promotion or I may have not purchased. Another great plus to this shop, is that The Atelier accepts returns.

There are too many items to choose from, you just may spend your whole day on the site.

Can’t find what you are looking for? Is that even possible? Etsy has a feature called Alchemy where a potential buyer can explain what they are looking for. Then artists bid on the project explaining how they can fill the buyers need.

Etsy is a great website that gives artists a chance so showcase their creative works to a larger audience. It helps promote individuality and supports the artists who want to express their visions. Not to mention, the prices are very reasonable and often too hard to believe. These artists put their heart and sole into many of these items and we benefit by looking great and not loosing too many pennies. I was cleaning out my inbox and found a great link my father sent me. It is a compilation of all the promos and coupon codes on the Internet. I know there are countless websites that list all the codes but it is great to have one saved as a favorite or bookmarked. Currentcodes.com is great because it organizes it by merchant, alphabetically, or category. So if you know exactly what you want and from where you can see if that website has a special running. Or if you need to send a friend or lover flowers you can see what online florist is running a special. It makes life so much easier. It also has a ticker, with the most recent codes that might tickle your fancy for a less guilty impulse purchase.

So the time has come for me to step out on my own and become the adult I have always dreamed of. I recently graduated college and have become a member of America’s vast work force. Going to school in Tennessee I was living off my parent’s money and enjoying the typical American College Experience. There were the football tailgates, sorority formals, Thursday nights down town etc. I was having the time of my life and not watching my pocketbook as closely as I should have been. But now reality hits.....

It is my time to start paying my way. At the beginning of next month I will be on my own in more ways than one. I will be moving into the big city trying to support myself and establish a place for me in society. Moving into the most expensive city in America an entry level salary is going to be the reality check that I desperately need. It is time for me to learn how to budget and truly know the meaning of a hard earned dollar.

Of course I can afford rent, but what about the extras? What will be left over for fun? Will I actually lose the weight I have so desperate tried to shed since puberty? Will I be forced into mandatory anorexia? I doubt it. Will my social life cease to exist? The purpose of me moving into the city is to have one; another weekend in suburbia may force me to go insane.

This brings me to my mission. I am going to live the life of a fashionista, celebutant, socialite, you name it, without going into debt. I may not have the latest Seven Jeans or Christian Loubutain heels but I am going to find the best alternative. Sipping champagne at Buddahkahn every weekend? It will be more along the lines of the occasional appearance on a special night out. However there are countless inexpensive gems in this city, and I am going to unearth them. With the money I have saved I maybe able to eat a balanced meal or slip into some Lavin flats. I am going to find a way to live the life….on a budget!
